I started this figure yesterday with oil directly onto some heavy bristol paper. Decided not to do a preliminary drawing or underpainting this time. Skipping that part can lead to weird proportions and lack of symmetry in the same way a contour line drawing can, but I like that. It seems more like the way we relate to each other. Not always from the general to the specific, but immediately specific, and minute to minute. Plus the colors seem to be a little richer when I think of it as tiny interlocking areas of color.
